About Chronicles of the Witch Queen
Chronicles of the Witch Queen started in the mid 1990s when Greg Storm and Daniel Østvold, both from Norway, created the first storyline The Double and contacted Reinder Dijkhuis, who was then publishing zines from his apartment in Groningen, the Netherlands, with a view to getting it serialized in one of his zines. Instead, he put it out as a single book. More stories were made and Reinder got involved as a translator, editor, second artist and occasional writer. The comics were first published on the web on the Webcomicsnation platform, which is now gone. A new web publication on ComicFury was started in 2015 and is still ongoing.
Chronicles of the Witch Queen is nominally set in a fantasy universe based on 16th-Century Scandinavia, but in practice can be anything it wants to be, so in recent stories, characters have gone to the moon, to other planets, traveled the world and gone back and forward in time. They have also been in other comics' universes. The principal characters are:
Queen Elspeth, Witch Queen. Slightly-benevolent ruler of the Overcity and the Undercity.
Countess Alcydia von Donnerwetter, a cousin to Elspeth, who wants to be Witch Queen instead of the Witch Queen
The Baron von Fieffelfalsfaffel, fighter, lover, upper-class twit.
The creators of Chronicles of the Witch Queen have many other projects going at any one time. Daniel is a sculptor and painter whose work has been shown in galleries all over Scandinavia and the Baltics. He is also a songwriter and has some songs available through his Bandcamp page.
Reinder has multiple webcomics, the most important of which is Rogues of Clwyd-Rhan.
